USA: 'She is now ready to live her life' - Chelsea Manning's attorney ahead of her release

United States, Albuquerque
May 16, 2017 at 19:50 GMT +00:00 · Published

Attorney of U.S. Army private Chelsea Manning Nancy Hollander said on Monday, from Albuquerque, that Manning is "certainly positive now", one day before her scheduled release from prison in Leavenworth, Kansas.

"Chelsea is very excited about getting out, I'm sure she is a little bit anxious too. It's a difficult transition for anybody," Hollander said in an interview to RT. Manning will now "live her life as a woman that she is, and go forward," Hollander added.

Hollander commented on the current US administration stance on Manning's release saying that "they're reacting without looking to any of the facts."

"What Chelsea did was expose human rights violations, war crimes, and things that the government shouldn't have been doing in the first place," Hollander said.

Manning has been serving seven out of thirty five years of sentence for leaking hundreds of thousands of classified and sensitive military and diplomatic information.

Her sentence, which is still under appeal, was commuted in January by then-US President Barack Obama, a decision that was criticised by the current-President Donald Trump.
