UK: 'We're going to become an independent, normal country again'– Farage on Brexit

United Kingdom, London

Journalist (English): “What’s your message to voters?”

Nigel Farage, Former leader of UKIP (English): “Well I think actually what’s happening is voters around the country are now coming together and I suspect if there was a referendum tomorrow it would be nearer 70 percent that would vote to leave. So there is a coming together - though not much in Westminster.”

Former leader of the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) Nigel Farage expressed happiness at the prospect of the UK becoming “an independent, normal country again” on Wednesday from London, where Theresa May announced that she had formally triggered Article 50, as negotiations officially start for the UK to break away from the EU.

Farage, who spent years campaigning for the UK to leave the EU, said he was confident that the nation was coming together, claiming, “if there was a referendum tomorrow it would be nearer 70 percent that would vote to leave.”

Article 50 allows EU and UK representatives two years to come to a deal on the terms of the UK's exit from the union, with the deadline for the talks set for 29 March 2019. If an agreement is not reached, the parties will have to decide on an extension date.
