Syria: SDF fighters determined to fend off 'Turkish threats' with US coalition

Syrian Arab Republic, Ayn Issa

Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) fighters expressed from the town of Ayn Issa in Raqqa Governorate on Saturday their determination to fight alongside the US-led coalition forces against any "Turkish incursion in Kurdish lands."

SDF fighter Ardal Kobani said that the presence of US forces "makes us feel reassured, and it sends an indirect message to the Turks regarding any step they might take that has to do with infiltrating the Syrian north."

Another fighter, Delgash Hasan, ruled out that Turkey would carry out any attacks "since we are now in partnership with the International Coalition against any threats, whether Turkey or anyone else."

On his end, SDF soldier Azazd Kibani said, "We will confront any attempt to shake or unsettle the Kurdish gains with or without the International Coalition."

Earlier in March, around 400 US Marines arrived in northern Syria to participate in an offensive aimed at retaking Raqqa from the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL).

According to the US coalition command centre, the Marines will assist the Kurdish-led SDF in their push to re-establish control over Raqqa, making it the first time since the beginning of the Syrian conflict that this formation has been deployed in action.
