Switzerland: HNC discussed transitional governing body for Syria with de Mistura - al-Hariri

The Syrian opposition's High Negotiations Committee group discussed in detail the question of a transitional governing body during their first meeting with the UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura, said the delegation's head Nasr al-Hariri in Geneva on Friday.

Speaking at a press conference after their first meeting at the Palais de Nations within the framework of the 5th round of Intra-Syrian talks, Nasr al-Hariri blamed government forces for escalating the situation on the ground just ahead of the current round of UN-mediated talks. He noted that the HNC team had nevertheless arrived in Geneva in order to reach a "negotiated solution and full protection for all Syrians." The HNC chief negotiator added that he was still "waiting for real indicators, that there is another party committed" to the same goals.

The head of the High Negotiations Committee's delegation in Geneva also presented to journalists copies of statements made by several fractions of the Free Syrian Army, which had confirmed, according to al-Hariri, their commitment to international agreements, related to human rights, as well as to ensuring that civilians in Syria's Mahardah and Skalbia would not become targets of military operations by the Free Syrian Army.
