Spain: Rally commemorate 14 refugees who drowned as Spanish police shot them
Hundreds commemorated the third year anniversary of the death of 14 African refugees in the Mediterranean Sea near Tarajal, by staging tombs in front of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Madrid on Monday.
The tombs were set up along rubber bullets and photographs of the refugees, who died after being shot at with rubber bullets and tear gas canisters by Spanish Civil Guard members while attempting to swim from Morocco to Ceuta in 2014.
The protest took place after an announcement was made on reopening the case against 16 officers who were on duty that day, to establish whether they made appropriate use of anti-riot gear. The officers were acquitted in the first court trials.
