UK: 40,000 protest against Trump's 'Muslim ban' in London

Over 40,000 people flooded the streets of London on Monday to protest against U.S President Donald Trump’s travel ban on seven Muslim-majority countries. In reaction to the ban, protesters are demanding that Trump be banned from entering the U.K for state visits.

Protesters took to the streets denouncing Trump, holding sings such as “Let them in” and “Fuck this shit”.

At the time of writing, some 1.5 million people signed an official U.K. petition calling for Donald Trump to be prevented from making official state visits to the UK.

It states: "Donald Trump should be allowed to enter the UK in his capacity as head of the US Government, but he should not be invited to make an official State Visit because it would cause embarrassment to Her Majesty the Queen."

British Prime Minister Theresa May met with Trump on Friday, and extended her invite to the U.S president for a state visit. Downing Street announced that it is expected to take place later this year.

Trump’s ban affects citizens of Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen. Trump has maintained that the restrictions should not be dubbed a 'Muslim ban,' despite it only being brought into effect for these seven countries, all of which have a majority Muslim population.

The travel restrictions will be implemented for 90 days for all people hailing from these seven countries, including legal permanent residents of the US. Additionally, there has been a 120 day ban on refugee admissions, and an indefinite halting of Syrian refugee admissions.
