UK: Holocaust Remembrance Day commemoration takes place at Soviet War Memorial
Around 70 people joined war veterans to mark Holocaust Remembrance Day, at the Soviet War Memorial in London, on Friday.
The attendees included representatives from the Russian Embassy and local authorities. A procession was held, arriving at the memorial, which is situated close to London's Imperial War Museum. There the attendees observed a two minutes silence and laid wreaths to honour the victims of the Nazi Regime, at the Holocaust Memorial Tree.
Honorary Secretary of the Soviet Memorial Trust Fund and organiser Ralph Gibson stressed, "These kinds of days where you take a moment out to reflect on the events of the past it is vitally important that we continue to do so even in the 21st century."
The annual ceremony is held on the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz camp, where at least 1.1 million people, mostly Jews, were killed. It also honours the joint efforts of Russia and the UK in the fight against the Nazi regime.
