
Russia: Security Council discusses preparations for Syrian peace talks
Russian President Vladimir Putin met with the permanent members of the Russian Security Council in Moscow, Thursday, to discuss the preparations for the upcoming negotiations on the Syrian conflict in the Kazakh capital of Astana.
Talks on Syria are schedule to take place on January 23, after the leaders of Turkey and Iran agreed to a fresh round of negotiations, which are set to take place in Astana. According to the Russian Foreign Ministry the gathering is likely to last for several days.
Apart from Syria, the Minsk agreements were also on the agenda amid allegations from Moscow that Kiev is making slow progress in implementing the regulations of the deal.
Prime Minister Medvedev, Foreign Minister Lavrov, Director of the Russian Federal Security Service Patrushev and Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko, were among the attendees of the closed-door Security Council meeting.
