Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated there is a "probable" link between truck attacks in France, Berlin and East Jerusalem, from the site of the incident where four Israeli officer cadets were killed in East Jerusalem, Sunday.

"I have had a meeting with the Minister of Defence, the IDF chief commander and others in respect to the actions need to be taken. We know that there is a sequence of attacks, and it is probable to have a connection between them, from France and Berlin, and now in Jerusalem," informed the prime minister.

Netanyahu also noted that "We know the identity of the assailant. According to all indications, he is a Daesh supporter." In response to the attack, the Israeli leader stated that the suspects neighbourhood of Jabel Al-Mochaber, has been encircled. Palestinian media have identified the attacker as Fadi al-Qanbar, a man in his 20s, who has reportedly spent time in an Israeli jail.

The attacker was shot dead in the aftermath of the attack. Following the incident, at least 10 soldiers were trapped under the vehicle but were later rescued. According to police reports, among the victims were three women and one man, all of whom were reportedly in their twenties.

The incident took place on a promenade overlooking the Old City of Jerusalem several blocks from a US consulate building.
