Russia: FAN ID centre opens in St. Petersburg ahead of next summer's Confederations Cup
The Centre for the registration and issuing special passports for visitors to the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup and 2018 FIFA World Cup opened in St. Petersburg, Wednesday. The centre was inaugurated by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Vitali Mutko and Russian Minister of Communications and Mass Media Nikolai Nikiforov.
Nikiforov explained that the FAN ID will “act as the free visa entry to the country, so you have to take your foreign passport and this FAN ID” and “you will have the access without any further procedures to the stadium.”
The pass will also allow the visitor to use the host cities' public transportation systems, and to travel between the cities on intercity trains.
Similar centres will open in Moscow, Sochi and Kazan, all of which will host the matches of 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup next summer.
