      Iran: Matviyenko arrives in Tehran for bilateral talks

      Russia's Federation Council Chairperson Valentina Matviyenko arrived in Tehran on Sunday, to discuss international affairs with the Iranian leadership.

      Valentina Matviyenko was welcomed at the airport by high-ranking Iranian officials. Later in the day, Matviyenko met with the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Ali Larijani to discuss cooperation in different spheres as well as fighting international terrorism, after which they held a joint press conference.

      "We highly appreciate our cooperation in Syria in the fight against international terrorism and we coordinate our actions," said Matviyenko.

      Larijani expressed his hope that this visit will "have a positive impact on the development of economic relations and security cooperation."

      The delegation from Russia’s Federation Council headed by Matviyenko arrived in the Iranian capital for a two-day visit. Matviyenko is accompanied by a number of parliamentary officials as well as Head of the Russian Federation Council's defence committee Viktor Ozerov.
