Germany: Arms exports are for Germany’s legitimate security interests – govt. spokesperson
German government officials stated that Germany always abides by its arms export agreements, especially in case of arming Kurdish Peshmerga Forces fighting against the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIL/ISIS) in Iraq, speaking during a press conference in Berlin, Wednesday.
"The authorisation of arms exports is also to do with legitimate security interests of the German Federal Republic. And in the case of the Peshmerga, such exports are authorised, then this has to do with the fact that the conflict against the so-called Islamic State - the terror organisation - regards Germany's legitimate security interests," German government spokesperson Steffen Seibert said.
Spokesperson for Federal Ministry of Finance, Friederike von Tiesenhausen, continued, "Germany is fulfilling her responsibilities, as always, within international security and the Federal Government, in every single application, at the precise country of destination."
Moreover, von Tiesenhausen stressed that by arming Peshmerga Forces, Germany "follows all the reached agreements in order to be sure that deliveries reach the right and agreed persons and stay in their hands."
