"I don't know any more about the U.K's negotiating position than I did before the meeting", said Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon following Brexit talks with British Prime Minister Theresa May in Downing Street in London on Monday, adding that it was "a source of real frustration."

The meeting was the first of regular formal talks that are to be held by May with the participation of the First Ministers of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Upon leaving Downing Street, Sturgeon warned, "I'm not prepared to see Scotland driven off a Brexit cliff edge with all the implications for our economy without at least giving Scotland the option to choose something different." She said that she had put forward a proposal for a "work program" that is "integrated with the wider process", in order "to make sure we are able to influence these discussions."

Northern Ireland's Deputy First Minister meanwhile noted that there lies "challenging times ahead', particularly as Brexit could affect the Good Friday agreement and St Andrews agreement that are "absolutely contingent upon ensuring that there are no interruptions between North and South."

Meanwhile Welsh First Minister Carwyn Jones emphasised that to him, "access to the single market is the most important issue", "we get that gateway shut to us, we lose jobs."
