France: Hundreds protest opening of far-right bar in Lille
Around 500 people protested in the streets of Lille on Saturday to coincide with the opening of "The Citadel", a bar set up by far-right, anti-immigration group Generation Identitaire.
Protesters carried anti-Nazi signs and sung chants like "Everybody hates the Citadel" as they converged in Lille's Republic Square. Dozens turned up to Rue les Artes where the bar is situated to toast its opening. Police closed streets around the bar and deployed 200 police officers and a helicopter though no incidents were reported.
A petition calling for a ban on the bar opening collected more than 60,000 signatures. Generation Identitaire is the youth wing of far-right movement Bloc Identitaire, established in France in 2003.
