USA: New data on MH17 crash should help investigation - Zakharova

United States, New York
September 22, 2016 at 18:37 GMT -00:00 · Published

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, expressed hope that new airspace data on the MH17 crash in eastern Ukraine could help the investigation, speaking on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session in New York, Thursday.

Earlier on Thursday, the Russian Almaz-Antey arms manufacturer officially confirmed that it has handed over airspace data on the area of the crashed Malaysian Airlines Boeing to the Russian law enforcement authorities, particularly on the day when this tragedy occurred.

Zakharova stressed that Russian Foreign Ministry "considers this move to be important first of all because it is a significant contribution to the investigation," continuing that "this move will shed light and help to determine the very reasons of what happened in Ukraine two years ago."

This move "should become an example for foreign countries and for all those who possess any information which is very important for determining what happened with Malaysian Airlines Boeing," Zakharova added.

The Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 was en route to Kuala Lumpur from Amsterdam when it was downed in the sky over eastern Ukraine on July 17, 2014. All 298, including 80 children and 15 crew members, were killed.
