
Russia: Putin presents awards for achievements in literature, art, science and tech
Russian President Vladimir Putin hosted an award ceremony in the Kremlin, in Moscow, Thursday, where he honoured people who have made outstanding contributions to literature, the arts, science, technology and humanitarian work.
Former Mayor of Moscow Yuri Luzhkov was among the awardees, as well as Russian cosmonaut Alexander Misurkin and film director Stanislav Govorukhin.
At the ceremony, Putin said that the "state awards ceremony is one of the most solemn ceremonies which take place here in Moscow's Kremlin. It gathers outstanding citizens of our country and without doubt extraordinary people, whose achievements have a special value to Russia. Each of you has achieved the heights of your career. Thanks to your hard work, talent, courage and wisdom, you have multiplied fame and the pride of Russia. Many of you have given years of unceasingly hard work and irreproachable state and military service."
