
China: Putin and Saudi Deputy Crown Prince urge closer bilateral ties
Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Saudi Arabian Deputy Crown Prince and Defence Minister Mohammad Bin Salman on the sidelines of the G20 summit, in the Chinese city of Hangzhou on Sunday.
Security issues in the Middle East and the expansion of bilateral cooperation were among the main topics on the agenda of the meeting.
Putin emphasised that Russia "attaches great importance to expanding multifaceted and mutually beneficial cooperation with Saudi Arabia," noting that the two countries are "the largest oil-producing countries." Putin stressed that "none of the serious issues in the region can be solved without Saudi Arabia, and it is imperative for us to maintain a constant dialogue with you."
The Saudi Arabian defence minister echoed Putin's sentiments, saying "the relationship between Russia and Saudi Arabia is of great importance. It is of a strategic nature." He added "we are sure that Russia is not only a significant global player but also a great power."
