Syria: Starved Aleppo residents line up for badly needed food aid
Aid workers distributed buckets of hot food and rice among women and children in Aleppo's Castello Road, the lifeline of the opposition -held eastern part of the city, Monday.
The footage shows aid workers cooking and handing out hot food such as pasta, rice and soup to local residents, who can be seen queuing with buckets outside the aid centre.
The situation in Syria's second city is tense following an escalation of fighting between opposition and government forces in the recent weeks. According to the Russian Defence Ministry, some 700,000 residents remain trapped inside the city, while the death toll continues to climb.
The UN is prepared to send two convoys of 20 trucks containing enough food for 80,000 people to eastern Aleppo, once more nations involved in the conflict commit to a 48-hour ceasefire which has already been backed by Russia.
