Turkey: FSA take control of Syrian town of Jarabulus, Erdogan confirms

Turkey, Ankara
August 25, 2016 at 00:55 GMT -00:00 · Published

The Free Syrian Army (FSA) took control of Jarabulus, formerly held by the Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL), confirmed Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara, Wednesday.

Speaking during a meeting with US Vice President Joe Biden, Erdogan went on to slam Syrian President Bashar al-Assad saying "We shouldn't let Syrians to be governed forcefully by someone that they don't accept. The Assad regime governing Syria would never manage to reach democracy."

Turkey's leader concluded his statement saying "A [truly] Islamic state cannot create terrorists. Daesh is a terror group, a terrorist organisation. Islam is a word derived from the word of peace. Hence, a Muslim cannot perpetrate such massacre. He can not use 12, 13, 14 year-old kids as suicide bombers." stated Erdogan.

Joe Biden travelled to Turkey in an attempt to smoothen bilateral relations with Turkey since the failed July coup and following persistent demands from Turkey to extradite the US-based Muslim Cleric Fethullah Gulen, who they believe is responsible for the coup.
