Brazil: Michael Phelps retires after 23rd Olympic gold

US swimmer and the most decorated Olympian of all time, Michael Phelps, announced that he is retiring after claiming his 23rd Olympic gold medal, during a press conference at the Olympic Park in Rio de Janeiro, Sunday. Phelps won a total of 28 Olympic medals in his lifetime.

"This is how I wanted to finish my career. This is the cherry I wanted to put on top of the cake," Phelps said about his retirement, adding that "I can't even wrap my head around twenty-eight medals, I mean that's insane."

He continued, "I'm more emotional than I was in London, because it actually meant something. And I don't want to say that London didn't mean anything but this is how I wanted to finish. I didn't want to feel like I was forced to do something. I did this this time because I truly wanted this to do."
