UN: Ukraine denies Crimean terror plot involvement, plans to appeal to UNSC
Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations Volodymyr Yelchenko denied accusations that Ukraine was involved in a terror plot in Crimea during a press conference from United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York, Wednesday.
"Ukraine condemns in the strongest terms yet another Kremlin manufactured provocation and rejects all accusations which are completely groundless," stated Yelchenko, claiming that Russia was "undertaking another hybrid special operation with the aim to justify its future aggressive actions against Ukraine."
Yelchenko also said that Ukraine plans to appeal to the UN Security Council "as soon as I can," adding that it is quite possible to "bring the conflict to another level."
On Wednesday, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) announced that it has foiled attacks planned by the Ukrainian military intelligence on the territory of Crimea. During the operations, two Russian officers were killed in separate incidents. The FSB said it found 20 IEDs, ammunition and mines, believed to belong to special units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, in the area of the attack.
According to the FSB, the aim of the planned attacks was to destabilise the social and political situation on the Crimean Peninsula ahead of the Russian parliamentary elections in September.
