At least 10 people were killed in a twin car bomb attack aimed at the office of Somalia Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Mogadishu on Sunday.

The first car bomb was followed less than a minute later by another, which then sparked an exchange of gunfire lasting around 30 minutes. Amongst the dead were at least three attackers, who were killed by security forces when attempting to enter the CID compound.

Al Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the car bombs and shootings. The group claimed responsibility for the explosives attack hotel near Mogadishu's International Airport earlier in the week, which resulted in the deaths of 13 civilians.
