Libya: LNA liberate El Magrun from Benghazi Defence Brigades - reports
The town of El Magrun, in the Benghazi District, was reportedly liberated by Libyan National Army (LNA) forces, Wednesday, after an intense three-day battle against militants of the Benghazi Defence Brigades.
Earlier in the day, President Francois Hollande confirmed that three French soldiers had been killed after a helicopter they were travelling in was downed outside the city of Benghazi on Sunday. Benghazi Defence Brigades claimed responsibility for the downing. The admission by Hollande was the first official confirmation that French troops are operating in Libya.
Fighters of the LNA launched an offensive in the Benghazi District on July 4 against forces of the self-proclaimed Islamic State and Benghazi Defence Brigades, among other groups.
