UK: Boris Johnson grilled by journalists, claims comments are 'misconstrued'
SOT, UK Foreign Secretary, Boris Johnson (English): “Well – thank you for giving me an opportunity to repeat a point I made earlier on. I’m afraid there is such a rich thesaurus now of things I’ve said that have been one way or another, through what alchemy I do not know, somehow misconstrued, that is would really take me too long to engage in a full global itinerary of apology to all concerned. I think most people who read these things in their proper context can see exactly what was intended, and indeed I find virtually everybody I’ve met so far in this job understands that very well, particularly on the international scene and .. we have some very serious issues before us today”
Journalists asked Boris Johnson if he would like to apologise for with some of the less diplomatic comments he has directed at world leaders over the years following his first press conference with US Secretary of State John Kerry on Tuesday. Johnson admitted there was a "rich thesaurus" of remarks but said it would take far too long “to engage in a full global itinerary of apology”.
Johnson was appointed Foreign Secretary by Theresa May, in a government reshuffle following Brexit. Johnson fronted the leave campaign which has been criticised with making misleading claims over government spending and immigration.
