Turkey: Severe damage to Ankara parliament after failed coup
Footage shot in at the Turkish parliament Ankara on Saturday morning shows the aftermath of the coup attempt which failed to seize power in the country overnight.
Troops from a breakaway faction of the army attempted to take over major communication, transport, and administrative in major cities including Istanbul and Ankara. The country was in lockdown as the military aired broadcasts claiming its actions were in order to restore secularism and human rights.
The coup was eventually foiled however after tens of thousands of citizens came on to the streets to disarm the troops involved in the plot. Turkish President Recep Erdogan has vowed severe retribution against those sections of the military involved in organising the coup.
