USA: "We cannot give in to fear" - Obama speaks after Nice attacks
United States President Barack Obama commented on the recent attacks in Nice that killed 84 people during a reception for the Diplomatic Corps in the White House in Washington DC on Friday.
Obama stated that "we cannot give in to fear or turn on each other or sacrifice our way of life. We cannot let ourselves be divided by religion because that's exactly what the terrorists want," adding that "all of us, whatever nations we represent here, I think have to step back and reflect on what we are doing to eliminate this kind of chronic violence."
At least 84 people were killed and dozens more injured in Nice on Thursday, after a lorry ploughed through crowds celebrating Bastille Day on the pedestrianised promenade facing the Mediterranean city's waterfront.
The suspected driver was named as Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, after investigators found his details on a driver's license and bank card found in the truck. Bouhel's wife has been placed in custody since 11:00 local time (09:00 GMT).
