Germany: EU could become more dominated by Germany after Brexit – Steinmeier
German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier spoke at the German Social Democratic party's (SPD) Europe conference in Berlin, Saturday, in which he discussed the Brexit's impact on the future of the EU.
Steinmeier suggested that upon the UK's exiting of the EU, Europe could become "even more German." Though the minister was pessimistic about this occurring, referencing a conversation he had with former Polish FM, Radoslaw Sikorski, in which Steinmeier said "this leading role in Europe [for Germany] is always hoped for, but it will never be accepted."
The German also stated that at the moment, it is important that "Germany goes forward, takes the leading role (in Europe), wherever possible together with France and the European people."
