Germany: Turkish and Kurdish communists go on trial in Munich
Ten activists with Turkish and Kurdish backgrounds went on trial in Munich, on Friday, accused of being members of the left-wing group Communist Party of Turkey/Marxist-Leninist (TKP/ML). According to the state prosecutors, the TKP/ML has carried out numerous bomb attacks back in Turkey.
The suspects arrived at the trial raising their fists and were received by people cheering them from the stands over the courtroom. At the entrance, several activists gathered waving flags and holding banners to show their support.
The Communist Party of Turkey/Marxist–Leninist (TKP/ML) is a Maoist group in Turkey, founded in 1972, with Ibrahim Kaypakkaya as its first leader. TKP/ML participates in the International Conference of Marxist-Leninist Parties and Organizations. Defence lawyers say that the case against the activists in Munich is politically motivated.
