USA: Sanders says campaign is 'still standing' during DC speech
Democratic Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders dismissed claims that his campaign was over, during a speech to supporters in Washington DC, on Thursday, despite media reports confirming his rival Hillary Clinton has received enough delegates to win the nomination.
Speaking in front of his supporters at the parking lot of the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium, the Vermont Senator said, "You know, a little bit over year ago we began this campaign and what the punditry thought that the campaign would not go very far. Well here we are in the mid-June and we are still standing."
Sanders continued by calling on his D.C. supporters to lead the USA into a "political revolution", ahead of the district's primary on Tuesday June 14.
Dr Cornel West, a high-profile supporter of Sanders, spoke at the rally as well. He had strong criticism of both Clinton and presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, calling the former a "milquetoast neoliberal sister" and the latter a "narcissistic neo-fascist".
