Germany: Hundreds of far-right protesters march against refugees in Dortmund
Some 900 far-right protesters marched through Dortmund in western Germany, Saturday, for an annual demonstration against the government's policies on immigration and multiculturalism.
The protest was organised under the slogan "A Day of the German Future", by supporters of far-right organisations including the National Democratic Party (NDP) and Die Rechte (The Right).
The demonstration was initiated by the member of the far-right member of Dortmund's city council, Michael Bruck. The organisers initially wanted to march through neighborhoods that had high numbers of refugees and immigrants but the request was blocked.
The protest marched a 5-kilometer (3-mile) route through the centre of the city, and were faced with several counter-demonstrations along the way.
About 5,000 police officers were deployed to prevent any clashes.
