
Russia: EMERCOM dispatch 30 tons of aid to Ecuador for quake victims
The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) packed up almost 30 tons (27,215 kg) of humanitarian aid onto an Ilyushin IL-76 at Ramenskoye Airport, Moscow Oblast on Wednesday, to send to Ecuador after Saturday's major earthquake and Wednesday's large magnitude 6.2 tremor killed at least 500 people.
On the orders of Russian President Vladimir Putin, a combination of food, tents and mobile power generators will be sent to the areas worst hit by the 7.8 magnitude earthquake.
According to the most recent figures, at least 525 people have been killed and more than 2,500 injured following the earthquake and several powerful aftershocks. Volunteers from Colombia, Peru, Cuba, Venezuela, Switzerland, Mexico and Chile have been assisting Ecuadorian authorities with their search and rescue operations.
