USA: Erdogan offers condolences to victims of Diyarbakir bombing
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan offered his condolences to the victims of the bombing which took place in the southeastern Turkish city of Diyarbakir on Thursday, during a speaking engagement in Washington, D.C., also on Thursday.
"I would like to convey my condolences to those who lost their lives and wish my best to those who were injured. I am very sorry about these attacks but these attacks will never keep us from fighting terrorists," he told his audience at the Brookings Institute Foreign Policy event.
At least seven police officers were killed in the bombing and 27 others wounded, when an explosion hit a passing police vehicle in the Kurdish-majority city. Turkish security forces have engaged in a counter-insurgency operation in the country's southeast since last July, when a fragile peace with the Kurdish separatist group the PKK (Kurdish Workers' Party) collapsed.
