USA: Pentagon confirms disagreements with Turkey over Kurdish support
Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook confirmed that the US will continue to support Kurdish groups fighting the so-called Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) on the ground in Syria, despite disagreements with Turkey, speaking at a press conference in Arlington, Tuesday.
According to Cook, they "have had conversations with Turkey" about the situation in Syria, "specifically with the Kurds," after what US has "expressed our support for groups on the ground that are taking the fight to ISIL, that include some Kurdish groups."
The Pentagon spokesperson went on to say that "on this issue we will continue to disagree with Turkey" regarding "our support for those particular groups that are taking the fight to ISIL."
He added that the US "will continue to work with the Kurds on this issue and make clear our views on this."
