Switzerland: Syrian opposition delegation arrives at Geneva hotel for peace talks
The representatives of Syria's main opposition group, a 17-strong team of Higher Negotiation Committee (HNC) members arrived to N'vY hotel in Geneva, Saturday evening, for the UN peace talks on the Syrian crisis.
On Friday, UN special envoy for the Syria crisis, Staffan de Mistura, listed the points on the agenda for the talks, saying, firstly "governance, but we are talking about a governance which is all-inclusive." He added that a new constitution would also be discussed before saying talks will be held about holding, new elections under UN-supervision.
The invitations for the talks between the Syrian government and opposition were sent by the UN Security Council on Tuesday, January 26, with the negotiations expected to last for at least six months.
The main goal of the intra-Syria negotiations is to ultimately end the five-year-old conflict in Syria, with the initial implementation of a ceasefire, an increase in first aid to civilians and the establishment of a broad opposition against the so-called Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL).
