USA: 'Heil Trumpler!' Protesters attack Trump, one with TOMATOES, in Iowa

United States, Iowa City

Angry protesters heckled the speech of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump during a campaign rally at the University of Iowa in Iowa City on Wednesday, with no less than two tomatoes being thrown at the property mogul. At least three protesters expressed their opposition to Trump and his policies, all of whom were removed from the event by security officials.

The Republican presidential hopeful initially managed to keep his calm, addressing the disturbance in a jokey fashion. "I like protesters is because the cameras are like fixed; I thought it was like a thing they couldn't move. But whenever there's a protester, they turn like a pretzel," Trump said. However, when one protester showed up wearing a t-shirt reading "Heil Trumpler 2016," Trump lost his patience and ordered security to remove the demonstrator.

In his speech Trump praised himself for his ability to negotiate due to his experience in the private sector, exemplifying his claims by citing a hotel on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington D.C., which he bought recently and which previously was government property. He also condemned the press for not "leaving General Petraeus alone," while criticising The Democratic Party's Hillary Clinton. "They destroy General Petraeus for doing one tenth of what Hillary Clinton did," said Trump.

At least 1,500 Trump supporters attended the rally after he had announced that he would not attend the Thursday Fox News Channel debate.
