Russia: Putin to be practical on sanctions against Turkey

According to preliminary estimates, our companies can substitute 87,000 jobs but first of all they need to be ready for this from a professional point of view. I fully agree with you. In fact, we do everything for this and if in response to the destructive actions of some European countries and the United States we adopted restrictions on importing some goods to our market, we did so first of all to liberate the market from foreign dominance.

And we do it rightly, even from the point of view of WTO rules, because we act in response to the destructive actions of our partners as well as with Turkey. Our builders need to know about it, analyse it and be prepared to be part of the internal market to fulfil the needs."

Russian President Vladimir Putin said he would be practical when it comes to applying sanctions against Turkey for downing a Russian jet in 2015, Monday, during a press conference at the All-Russia People's Front meeting currently underway in the Stavropol Territory in southern Russia.

Putin told the crowd that it was important to avoid breaking "valid contracts because it will not only be a response to the Turkish government's actions, but can hurt us too."

Instead, the Russian leader announced that he plans to not "sign new agreements with Turkish contractors. And of course that will provide opportunities for our construction companies and will require new qualified personnel," a move which could provide "87,000 jobs," but Russian companies "need to be ready for this from a professional point of view," he added.

Putin claimed to use counter-sanctions against "the destructive actions of some European countries and the United States" in the hope of liberating the market from "foreign dominance."

The All-Russia People's Front was set up at President Putin's order to provide the governing United Russia party with "new ideas, new suggestions and new faces." The forum kicked off on Sunday and the two-day event is expected to attract around 600 people from across the Russian regions.
