Austria: Nuclear-related sanctions on Iran lifted, confirms Mogherini
"UN sanctions related to Iran's nuclear programmes are lifted," announced High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini from Vienna on Saturday. Mogherini was joined by Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif for the historic announcement of the deal which should see Iran rejoin the global economy.
"All sides remain firmly convinced that this historic deal is both strong and fair" commented Mogherini. She went on to say that the deals "proper implementation will be a key contribution to improve regional and international peace."
"United Nations Security Council resolution 2231 of 2015 which endorsed the GCPOA will from now onwards together with the treaty of the non proliferation of nuclear weapons, be the soul international legal framework related to Irans nuclear activities" announced Mogherini.
The landmark deal will enable Iran to rejoin the international banking system and let it resume selling oil and other energy supplies on the international market. The trade of buying and selling gold and metals with Europe will also be permitted.
