UN: DPRK's H-bomb test is deeply troubling - Ban Ki-moon says
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon called the underground nuclear test conducted by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), "deeply troubling" during a press conference at the UN HQ in New York, Wednesday.
"This test once again violates numerous Security Council resolutions despite the united call by the international community to cease such activities," he said, adding that "it is also a grave contravention of the international norm against nuclear testing."
The secretary-general went on to say that this act is "profoundly destabilising" for regional security and "seriously undermines international non-proliferation efforts." Ban Ki-moon also called on North Korean authorities to "cease any further nuclear activities and meet its obligations for verifiable denuclearisation."
The DPRK said in an official press statement earlier on Wednesday that authorities have conducted a "fully successful miniaturised hydrogen bomb" test at 10:00 am (6:30 pm GMT).
