
Russia: Putin addresses State Council meeting on improving education system
President Vladimir Putin said the Russian government must "make Russian schools among the best in the world" during a State Council meeting on improving the Russian education system in Moscow, Wednesday.
Putin added that "it is important to preserve and pass on to new generations the spiritual and cultural heritage of the peoples of Russia". He said children must be taught "history, the Russian language, great Russian literature, the languages of the peoples of the Russian Federation".
The high-level meeting was attended by Prime Minister Medvedev, Sergei Ivanov and head of the Russian Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko among others.
