Russia: The grandmother of 14-yr-old victim of Sinai crash speaks about her tragic loss
The grandmother of 14-year old Alisa Vitalieva, a victim of the Kogalymavia (Metrojet) flight 7K9268 crash, wept as she spoke about her loss in Pskov on Saturday. Pensioner Elena Voytenko also lost her daughter and the mother of Alisa in the tragedy.
"I have lost everything, my support on which I was depending in my old age," Elena wept. "I have no husband, he was a pilot and he did not die because of the crash, he died because of illness. But my daughter and grandaughter died because of the crash."
Alisa was travelling together with her mother Irina from Egypt when the Airbus crashed on October 31 in the north of the Sinai peninsula. Lada Naberezhnikh, a classmate of Alisa, said the 14-year-old "didn't really want to go" on the holiday. There were a total of 224 people on board the flight - 217 passengers, including 25 children, and seven crew members, with reports indicating that all but five passengers - four Ukrainians and one Belarusian - were Russian.
Nine residents from the region of Pskov are reported to have lost their lives. The first funerals were held on Thursday.
