Syria: Syrian Air Force MiG-21 fighter jet conducts sorties in Hama province
A Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21 fighter jet was seen taking off from a Syrian Arab Air Force air base in the Hama province, Friday.
The Syrian Arab Air Force has been providing air support for Syrian Arab Army troops fighting the Islamic State (IS, ISIS, ISIL) and other militant groups on the ground in Syria. On Friday Syrian fighter jets backed troops fighting in Maarek. Whilst the Syrian Arab Air Force conducts its own sorties, all missions are agreed with the Russian Air Force currently stationed at the Hmeymim Air Base in Latakia.
Originally designed as a fighter jet by the Soviet Union in the 1950s, the Syrian Arab Air Force have modified the MiG-21 so that it can be used as a bomber.
