Russian Minister of Transport Maksim Sokolov briefed Russian Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev and other government officials on the progress of the investigation into flight 7K9268 at a meeting in Moscow on Thursday.

Minister Sokolov opened by saying "in accordance with the international standards of the ICAO [International Civil Aviation Organisation] a commission was created and led by the state (Egypt) in which the accident occurred to investigate the causes of the disaster."

Sokolov went on to report that Russia had dispatched “169 people, eight units of hardware, including three aircraft and drones" to the investigation. He outlined that "search operations are continuing" with the findings of "two flight recorders, voice and parametric (flight data)" found on the day of the crash which were taken to Cairo. The Ministry of Transport meanwhile has been in contact with "Egyptian aviation authorities offering an additional audit of aviation security measures," Sokolov confirmed.

Kogalymavia (Metrojet) flight 7K9268 was heading to Saint Petersburg from Sharm el-Sheikh when it crashed in the Sinai around 23 minutes after take-off on Saturday, killing everyone on board. The passenger plane broke up in the air and its wreckage was scattered over a vast area of the Sinai Peninsula. There were a total of 224 people on board - 217 passengers, including 25 children, and seven crew members, with reports indicating that all but five passengers - four Ukrainians and one Belarusian - were Russian
