State of Palestine: Violence hits Ramallah on 'Day of Rage'

Palestinian Territory, Occupied, Ramallah
October 16, 2015 at 09:00 GMT +00:00 · Published

Clashes erupted between Israeli forces and Palestinian protesters in Ramallah, as violence continues to grip the West Bank, Friday.

Ambulances and medical staff rushed to help an unknown number of Palestinians who were injured in the violence. Meanwhile, Palestinian activists, some of them with their faces covered with keffiyehs, threw stones and used slingshots against the Israeli forces, who fired tear gas from armoured vehicles.

Violence has escalated in recent weeks in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories as long-simmering tensions over the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East Jerusalem, and the continued construction of illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank, have come to a head. The latest figures from Palestinian medical sources shows that more than 32 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli soldiers since 1 October, and more than 1,700 injured. At least seven Israelis have been killed during the same period.
