      Switzerland: Blatter's appeal process begins in Zurich

      As Monday's sun began to rise around the headquarters of FIFA in Zurich, the world's media prepared for a major committee meeting regarding the suspension of President Joseph 'Sepp' Blatter and his subsequent appeal.

      Blatter had been suspended for 90 days from the football association, alongside the body's Vice-President Michel Platini and Secretary General Jerome Valcke, following a FIFA Ethics Committee decision. He has refuted all allegations of wrongdoing. On October 20, FIFA called for an extraordinary meeting regarding Blatter's suspension.

      The FIFA president is currently under criminal investigation from Swiss prosecutors over a 2005 sale of television rights and a 2011 payment of two million Swiss francs (€1.8 million) to Platini, who also serves as UEFA President. Former FIFA Vice-President Chung Mong-joon has also been banned from the association for six years, also receiving a fine of 100,000 Swiss Francs (€91,489).

      Issa Hayatou, President of the African Football Confederation (AFC) and now interim president of FIFA after Blatter suspension, will travel on Tuesday to Zurich.
