UK: Iconic Scottish Cockenzie Power Station demolished in seconds
Footage shows the demolition of the iconic twin chimneys of Cockenzie Power Station in East Lothian, eastern Scotland, Saturday, in which the building was destroyed in a controlled explosion.
In a matter of seconds, the 149-metre tall (488 ft) steel chimneys hit the ground, after being part of the local landscape for over half a century.
Early in the morning local authorities banned entry to an exclusion zone around the power station and introduced some traffic restrictions as a precaution. The demolition attracted thousands of people who came to see the explosion, not only on the observation points on the ground, but also on boats on the water nearby.
