USA: Pope Francis visits Oval Office with President Obama
US President Barack Obama welcomed Pope Francis to the Oval Office, in Washington DC on Wednesday.
Earlier in the day the Pontiff was greeted by thousands of people who had lined the US capitals streets. Crowds of pilgrims, carrying flags of the Vatican, and of many Catholic nations, cheered Pope Francis and took pictures as he passed along the street and past the Washington Monument. There was a large police presence on hand and in-between the Popemobile and the crowds.
The 78-year-old Roman Catholic leader will be in the US for a five-day tour, coinciding with a United Nations summit on Friday which he is set to address. The Pope also plans to hold an open air Mass in Philadelphia, Saturday, which is expected to draw a million and a half worshippers.
