Ukraine: DNR/DPR prepare for tank biathlon
Soldiers from the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic's (DNR/DPR) held final preparations for the tank biathlon organised at the military range near Saur-Mogila, Monday.
The Deputy Chief of Armaments of the First Army Corps, calling himself "Lawyer," explained that teams are "getting ready to compete in the main program." The tank biathlon in the rebel-held part of Eastern Ukraine will start on September 24.
The Soviet generation T-64 and T-72 battle tanks are the primary models being used in the biathlon. The T-64 was first produced in 1964 and wields a 125-mm main cannon and has a maximum road speed of 60 km/h (37 mi/h). The T-72 entered service with the USSR army in 1973, the three-man tank similarly possessing a 125 mm cannon as well as two machine guns.
