Croatia: Hungarian authorities fortify border with new fence
Hungarian military engineers continued the construction of a fence in the border of Croatia, between the towns of Baranjsko Petrovo Selo in Croatia and Beremend in Hungary, on Monday, in an attempt to continue the prevention of refugees entering the country. They began to lay heavy pillars, the first stage of building their steel net fence, similar to the one erected on the border with Serbia.
One day earlier, on Sunday, Hungary installed a large metal gate at the entrance of the checkpoint located at the border, as more buses with refugees are arriving from Croatia's Tovarnik. This evening several of these buses are expected to arrive to Baranjsko Petrovo Selo, according to Croatian police.
However, the Beremend border check point remains open for buses transporting refugees from Croatia's frontier with Serbia.
Croatian police say more than 27,000 migrants have entered the country in the past few days after Budapest closed its border with Serbia. With more refugees and migrants expected to enter the country, Croatian authorities are setting up tents for migrants as weather conditions have deteriorated significantly.
