
India: All-women police station opens in Gurgaon
The first all-women police station opened in the city of Gurgaon on Friday to deal with crimes committed against women all across the state of Haryana.
The Minister of State for the Guargon Constituency, Rao Inderjit Singh, was in charge of cutting the red cordon marking the official inauguration. Shortly afterwards, female police officers staged a performance showing their combat fighting.
The 27-female-member police team will be joined by 50 anti-riot policewomen, who will also be based in the police station. Several workers from non-governmental organisations will provide legal assistance and help women who request psychological rehabilitation. The facilities are located within a two-floor building in Sector 51 of Guargon.
