Germany: Merkel and Danish PM Rasmussen discuss refugee crisis

Germany, Berlin
August 28, 2015 at 19:26 GMT +00:00 · Published

German Chancellor Angela Merkel welcomed Danish Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen for bilateral talks at the German Chancellery in Berlin, Friday. It is Rasmussen's first official visit to Berlin since he assumed office on June 28.

The meeting focused on the refugee crisis and the current political and economic situation in Europe. After a working lunch they held a joint press conference in which Rasmussen called on other EU states to share the burden of the refugees' arrivals more fairly, since "Germany and handful of other members states receive a vast majority of migrants [sic]."

"We also need to reduce the number of migrants that arrive in Europe to be able to welcome those refugees who have a real need for protection," he added.
